This thing turned up in our garden a few weeks ago. Any ideas, please?

Chinese gooseberry comes to mind. I use the old term rather than Kiwifruit, as if an old fashioned variety that's what it would have been called, and the stems look like the older version too.
By the way, they make very very good jam. Throw the fruit in the freezer for a few days, to freeze. Then when ready, take out and allow to thaw a little bit. you can then rub the skins off with ease. Chop up and take out any woody bits like those that set on the flower end of the fruit , add about half a cup of sugar to 1 cup fruit and process in the microwave stirring occasionally until the jam starts to set. Fancy raspberry jam, or if you don't have access to wild blackberries?, then buy a bag of frozen berries from the supermarket and throw those in with the kiwifruit. You'll be hard pressed to tell the difference as the kiwifruit takes on the other berry's flavour.
I made some with jam this year by adding plums to the kiwifruit . Got gobbled up rather quickly!

Did you know, that what you thought I said, was not what I meant :S
