Still having real trouble finding a genuine retired working dog

Yes, but he's 12 years old, so realistically, how long would we have him for?

I'll wait to check out what Hawai has to offer. If I wasn't stuck in Auckland for the next few weeks, we could go and visit sooner.

I have been supplementing the mostly useless and older lab x’s on para mountain formula these days in their dinner. Makes a big difference to mobility overall and of a winter evening, I was buying two formulas, a bulk one for the older nag, and a separate for the canines, but last purchase was told the formula was the same….

My Point being if it’s just a wee joint issue holding back on a purchase of a good older pup, then this is a good support system.

I too am looking for a retired working dog. Found one in Gisbourne as well, problem was that there are No couriers that can bring them to Northland. Tried Petcourier and private carriers, unable to connect, only option was to go there and pickup, by this time the owner dog had been rehomed.

Live in Northland NZ. 30 sheep mostly East Friesians, 5 cows,70 acreas mostly trees Lifestyle Block.

Our old dog with arthritis in practically every joint improved significantly when we supplemented with hoki oil from Newflands near Auckland. It has a high content of EPA and DHA which our vet said have both been shown in studies to be beneficial for arthritic joints. We have been able to reduce antinflammatories and seen her go back to being able to jump in the car after needing a ramp.
We are wondering whether we should take some of it too!

Do you need a ramp to get into the car?
No, but we use cars designed for humans to get into easily, whereas the dog must leap into the high back portion...

The Toyota ad comes to mind here. Have you ever heard your dog swear that "B" word when he's missed the deck?

Seriously though, I think it is easy to overlook animal health as our pets and helpers age. I think my cat "Toerag" may have arthritis as she is getting increasingly grumpy;. objects sometimes when picked up and doesn't climb trees as once she enjoyed. Mind you she is also carrying too much weight.

Did you know, that what you thought I said, was not what I meant :S

I don't really know Max2. I'm not really big on socialising with a big group that I don't know.

Well, Hawai hasn't been in touch and I can't get hold of her, so I'm still looking for a dog. :(

He's a nice looking dog, but that's an awfully long way for an old dog to travel. Plus, I still need him to be able to round up sheep, so the injury could be a problem for him.

Yep, been there. At present, the first four dogs in the North Island list have photos taken of the dogs inside a house - enough said. 'Retired Working Dog' must mean different things to different people.

A local hunter, with connections to the wider farming community is going to keep a lookout for me. He hunts on some large farms, where they have lots of dogs and as they get too old, they need retirement lifestyle blocks to go to. So I'm hoping we'll have a new dog soon. :)
