Bought a bale of baleage and found thee is a lot of barley grass in it .
Is this ok to feed out to my cows ? and what are the likely risks if any?

I guess the question is would you feed it to your cows.

Barley grass has some nutrition, and will not cause much problems to your cows. Your main problem will be the seeds that germinate.

if the baleage was well wrapped, inoculated and cured under reasonable heat, there is probably no viable seed left in it. if you want to be sure you can always try propagating it on some weed free seed raising mix to se if anything germinates, but the downside of that is the bale you opened will spoil while you wait to see if anything grows.
Barley grass is more of a problem to sheep, than cattle, as it catches in wool and then because of the little scales on the seeds husks it travels in one direction and can end up penetrating the hide and spoiling the meat.

Did you know, that what you thought I said, was not what I meant :S
