Agree with Mudlerk. I only have 5 or 6 ewes lamb each year and I find it best to ring the tails when lambs 2-3 days old and the testicles about 4-5 weeks. The tails come off much quicker than if they are tailed later and I think recovery is quicker and the wound when the tail drops is cleaner. (Although tailed later some years have not had infection problem) Doing the nuts later makes getting both ringed easier.

i don't know if lamb rams are the same as Goat billys, but our vet advocates leaving the boys til much older as, ringing kids early can lead to urinary tract problems

Our vet suggested at 1 month for lambs and 3 months for goats. He also said if we do the goats too early it will lead to urinary tract problems. Thank you for your response anyway. I was more keen to know about the tailing rings for my little lambs. Thank goodness no need for the goats!
