Once the carbonate part of the calcium carbonate has done its job of taking out the Hydrogen, that's all you need from it. The Calcium is still there to be used. "Working", if you like.

More please! :)

Are you sure about that? Mg QT levels are 20 and 24.

..... and the information that I have indicates that 8 to 10 is "optimum" .... whatever that means.
Wouldn't more magnesium get the Mg:Ca ratio out of balance, especially with the current lowish Ca quantity?
More info please. This is getting educational :-))

LR, soil magnesium 8-10 is sufficient for pasture growth, but higher soil Mg levels will increase pasture Mg levels (which is good for the animals eating the pasture, especially lactating cows and ewes). Dairy farms aim for much higher soil Mg, but I don't know what stock neil is running - maybe a house cow or two? But if so I would supplement the cows with Mg directly rather than apply Mg fertiliser.

Hi again and thanks for all the help. I am told farming is easy once you know how to. It's fun leaning but when you're dealing with animals you don't want to make mistakes. FYI we are doing casual leases to local farmers for their (mainly) heffers.

There's always something you either don't know yet or can't have known yet, which at some time is likely to jump up and hit you. Mind you, there are a lot of things a lot of people don't know they don't know. Perhaps it's those farmers who think it got easier.
