Horse float was created by davsri
Hi
We need a horse float for 5-7 days to take our pigs unto Tauranga for surgery. The hire place quoted around $600 dollars. Any one around Cambrigde or Hamilton have one they are willing to lease? Just trying to keep the costs down. Thanks

Am not sure why a horse float, unless your piggies are unusually tall,
An ordinary stock crate that fits on a trailer with a tarp over the top would be a lot cheaper and do the job just as well.
If its a ramp you want, to get them on, thats easily made out of a couple of pieces of long wood.
Our local garage charges something like $50 for a day for a caged trailer.
Am also assuming its not a 6 day trip so it would be a lot cheaper to hire it for one day and drive them there and then return the float/trailer? Then hire it again when collecting them?

Thanks Muri. The 6 day hire is to get them used to it and not get them stressed on the day.

I agree, you'd be better off with just a trailer. I should imagine a lot of people would be VERY reluctant to have pigs in their horse float as most horses are terrified of pigs (including the smell of them) & they'd be likely to have problems getting their horses back on board afterwards, no matter how well you clean it out before returning it.
