Orphan Lambs was created by scooter
Due to other commitments we are unable to raise orphan lambs this year. We are in North Canterbury and our contacts/suppliers are also from this area.

Should anyone be interested in raisinig orphan lambs we are able to put them on to some contacts. It would mean that you would have to promptly go and get them from these farms yourself.

Send us an email and we will go from there. :)

No, not in the near future. 'Tis a shame you are not closer as it would have been a good outlet for them all.

Hawarden/Greta Valley area. Could be over 100 depending on the season etc. (over a period of a couple of months)

Oh scooter - I am coming down to Chch to pick up a goat hopefully in mid october - you may still have some by then - I would need one that is still on the bottle though.

We aren't taking any in this year. (We will have our own ewes lambing)
Here's a bit about what we do/did...for the last 5 or so years we have been taking orphan lambs from larger sheep farms near us. What we would do is wait for the ph call from them, then go and get them. We would milk our own cows and raise these lambs on cow's milk and meal. Bit like what they do with raising calves. Hard work!
But who can resist their cute wee faces. Think I'll miss them but we just haven't got the time this year, so the cows will be left to raise their own and we will mother some more on to them. (which we did once we had weaned all the orphan lambs)

Probably could find you one then, but we would take them as they came available, if you can understand all that. We didn't like to leave the farmers worrying about feeding them, as they were busy enough doing everything else, and they were free so felt obliged to get there and get them ASAP same day.
Sometimes they wouldn't ring us for a few days as they liked to keep a few in case they needed them to mother on, but then they would get too big for that so we would get them. Beautiful lambs too.

Aww -I'm starting to feel all sad and guilty about not doing it this year.

Dura... you can have one of ours as a pet.... Don't feel mean about taking it off mummy i am sure she will be relieved at feeding just one, not the twins, and besides you would treat it like royalty!

Scooter - How many hours drive would it be from Blenheim if I got desperate and couldn't find one up here? I need one by mid August.

Electrickitty - thanks for the offer - but unless she just cannot cope with two - I feel it would be unethical to take a perfectly good lamb away from its mummy.
