I remarked on a distinct difference in the feel of the weather to OH a few days ago. I thought we might have turned the corner into spring.

Seems I'm not the only one here who thought that. This morning the young almond in the orchard is the first to break dormancy and it is quite well covered in flowers and has leaf coming too. What all this rain will do to the blossom is anyone's guess though. It has rained steadily and quite heavily all night.
Yesterday there were large numbers of bees active in the big red camellia in the garden, so that's a good sign as well.

Daffodils not out yet, but early cheers has been blooming for several weeks.

Did you know, that what you thought I said, was not what I meant :S

we've had daffodils for a good week now, and yesterday, i noticed my umeboshi plum in full flower - beautiful magenta-red little flowers!
the other plums are on the verge of bursting, as are some of the blueberry bushes - way too early!

NIWA's outlook for August was for a very cold start, but certainly it's a lot warmer than usual at present. I'd say don't get too comfortable...

My almond has been in blossom for a month, which, while it looks very pretty, means it is unlikely to produce almonds!

Spring is well and truly here! we've had just over 100mm of rain in the last 2.5 days! The creek overflowed and filled the old creekbed, so we were flooded for a few days, but mostly gone. I noticed the council diligently clearing the culvert that comes under the road, so now the water will come down on us a bit faster than it does when held up in the neighbours cornfield. A property on a parallel road was sold recently within a week of posting the signs. It looked immaculate with new pasture and kauri stumps and logs all dug out. Now, it is under water. i bet the new owners were not expecting that!

Did you know, that what you thought I said, was not what I meant :S

...and now it is snowing. We finally introduced the dog to the stuff, and she approved. The cat was disgusted.

I hope it isn't too bad for you, Hilldweller. It was coming down thickly for a while.

Kaka beak trees now in full flower... The reds started a few weeks back and now the first flowers are open on the white flowering trees.

Hoping for a good harvest of seed from the white ones this year.
