Thats good news

It's unacceptable that anyone would have to pay for such treatment in the first place.

I was at a conference a couple of weeks ago where I found out that Pharmac, who are supposed to be a funding agency only, are spending $10m on a 'one heart, many lives' campaign to get people to check out their heart health...to me it was something they should not be in a business of doing as a core funder, they should stick to their knitting and put that money into the drugs they are supposed to be funding! :(

About time! Too late for at least one woman - my second cousin - who lost her battle in August last year still waiting for Herceptin to be made available to her. Too late no doubt for a fair few more.

This is one of my pet hobbyhorses along with a lot of other chemotheraphys that are readily available overseas but not here, and the charging for mammograms for high risk women because they don't fit the age criteria for breastscreening.

One step forward! Yahoo.

It is just a dam shame that these ladies will not be able to get the reccomended 12 months worth though. If 12 months is what is reccomended by countries who have used it with great success, then thats what our NZ ladies should be able to have, not the 9 weeks they are going to allow.

Definitely Smilie. Grrrr
Know someone who got onto the clinical trial for Herceptin a few years ago. She was seriously short of other options as what was available was just not working. She is now doing great (got a full year of treatment though). Any foot in the door is a help though.
