"Good girl" - what a cheek!!

I just had to share this, left me gobsmacked.

At vet today with our dog to get her vaccinations. This business suited chappie comes out the door with his bichon frise puffball thingee, and as he comes through, he says, 'good girl'.

No I thought, he can't mean the female vet in the consult room, he must be talking to his dog.

He gets up to the reception desk, and tells the nurse the dog is Monty. So a male dog. The nurse does all the paperwork for him, and as he takes it from her and she says goodbye, he replies with 'good girl' again.

By now another woman and I waiting were looking at each other in disbelief. Patronising git! [:0]

In this day and age, how can he think it is acceptable to call a female vet and a forty-something vet nurse 'good girls' like the needed a pat on the head???? :(

They didn't say anything - client, and all that, or maybe like me they couldn't believe what they heard!!

Gobsmacking! Hope he does that to someone who is free to give him an absolute rocket.

Eww. I know a few older folk who call their wives 'mother', but in the same way folk over about 75+ are allowed to call me 'girl' if it's in a nice way ;).

Better than some of the names I get called, though, especially when moving the sheep with the other half and it isn't going well [}:)]

I was at a work colleages who looks after Mini LF on occasion, and her Hubby calls her Mum, i questioned her, and she says it is to not confuse thr kids with two names?? still seems weird, but each to their own i suppose!!!!

Bichons, sadly are my least fave dog on the planet, but thats not because of the dog, its because of an old neighbour who let hers yap for hours on end!

We called Dads Mum "Daddy Nana" so as not to confuse her with "Grandma"

One lived across the paddock on the same 12 acre Farmlet (it was subdivided to 12 acres in the early 70's, they didn't have LSB's in those days :)) and the other lived in PerrinPark retirement village bordering the school :D If Mum couldn't pick us up straight after school we'd climb the school fence and go wait with Daddy Nana untill she was free to come pick us up.

Both grandfathers died well before any of us kids were born, so we never got the chance to stick them with funny names. I dread to think of what i could end up being labeled as come the day theres rugrats around belonging to former rugrats of my own. [:P]

I get annoyed by the males in our road - when we first moved here my immediate neighbour said he must bring "the wife" down to meet me. This was followed some months later by another neighbour turning to my other half and saying "oh the wifes with you" - firstly I'm not the wife - I have never been and have no intention of getting married and secondly I think its insulting that these men cant use a womans name!

The other thing I hate is people who call me Mrs! When I was at a hospital apponitment recently I was called from the waiting area as Mrs ... When I pointed out to the nurse who took me through to the specialist that I was Miss not Mrs her comment was Mrs is now considered a generic term used for females. But then again I also hate the Ms title. :D

In Germany you are called "Mrs" when you are passed a certain age, married or not - not in New Zealand though.

My husband calls me "mummy", its a hang over from when the kids are little, and you say "go find mummy" or things like that. Then it just becomes a pet name. If he ever calls me by my real name, I wonder what I've done! (Or its someone on the phone, and that would be embarassing if he said "mummy is just coming"). Though it can feel a bit hillbilly, calling each other Ma and Pa.

Interesting.... I call myself Ms. I don't think its really anybody elses business whether I am married or not. And I don't understand why a girls title should change from Miss to Mrs if she gets married but a guy stays Mr whether or not he is married..... Thats just me though.

A tall, older male called me a good girl the other day. I gave him "one of those looks" while I considered my response, during which he reconsidered and amended his praise to Wonderful Woman! :D
