Year 4 would be 8-9 yr olds.

I still get confused even with my kids at school... my daughter is a year 3.

Wish they had stuck to Primer 1 etc. Much easier to understand.

Oh, mean't to ask, what sort of resources do you have to get. As I have grandys in all age groups, might be able to help.

Invasive species as in bugs, possums type thing? Our kids are into the possums as pests, goats as pests thing. But if it is bugglys, I will ask them.

[:I][:I][:I]I realised that as soon as I posted.[:I][:I][:I]. DUH!!!! (Brain not working too well. Doing nightfill at The Ware Whare.) Well, they know about Gorse anyway. Plenty of that around here. I'm not sure what they do at school, but you have opened a question I am going to ask them now. Its' something I hadn't thought about, but they should know shouldn't they.

It's great seeing the kids becoming aware of it, usually it's combined with restoration work of a bush area or a gully, the whole 'taking care of our environment' side of things.

I've had groups of 5 year olds tell me what a weed is 'a bad plant growing in the wrong place' but uni students not being able to do the same :D.

And they are soooo good at raising their parents and grandparents awareness of stuff too! [}:)]

Well, it's got me thinking now. Damn, who did that.[xx(] When I plant out my new place, I will get the kids involved, if I can. Then they can know the difference between a good plant and a bad plant. Mmmmmmm.

Here's the way I had this new fangled system explained to me: A child starts school when they turn 5, usually part way through the year. This new entrant year is called Year 0. If their birthday was before the cutoff date in May, they move up at Xmas to Year 1, otherwise they stay in Yr 0.
The following year, these 5 and a half and 6 yr olds are in Year 1, then 2,3, etc.
This means a Year 4 child is in their fourth full year of schooling, not counting the part year they did in New Entrants, alias Year Naught. This should mean they are by this time 8 and a half or 9 years old.
Or, looking at it another way, Year 7 is starting at Intermediate School, or Form 1, so that makes Yr 6 = Standard 4, Yr 5 = Std 3, Yr 4 = Std 2. Yr 3 = Std 1, Yr 2 = Primer 3, and year 1 is Primer 2. and Yr 0 is the new entrant class in Primer 1. Clear as mud?

11 acres (4 in QEII Covenanted native bush), 15 sheep, 2 beefies, large vege gardens and a goat, and still no dog!:(

Oh, and uncountable wild birds - including fantails, swallows, yellowhammers, morepork, magpies, hawks, pukekos, and even quaill, pheasants and rainbow lorikeets [:D][:D] Not to mention possums, hares, rabbits, rats...
