I have just installed MSN live messenger and now I cant sign in. i get
Error code 80072efd
I have tried troubleshooting etc etc, gone to the help pages but I can't make head or tail of anything there! all instructions seem to be for IE and not mozilla firefox
What on earth do I have to do to get signed in! It drives me nuts that I don't know what to do and I have problems everytime I do update msn!

Ah, yes, I do have a point. Since your MSN client does not work, why not try an alternative? I present 'gaim'
gaim.sourceforge.net/about.php
I know nothing about this either, but I have heard it's pretty good.

PS If it's a virus, I recommend Avast! It's free.

How about trying gaim anyway? Just for me? Huh? Just think, if you like it you can step off the Microsoft upgrade treadmill for a moment.

and then there's my Yahoo contacts too!

"Gaim is a multi-protocol instant messaging (IM) client for Linux, BSD, MacOS X, and Windows. It is compatible with AIM and ICQ (Oscar protocol), MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, IRC, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu, SILC, Novell GroupWise Messenger, Lotus Sametime, and Zephyr networks.
Gaim users can log in to multiple accounts on multiple IM networks simultaneously. This means that you can be chatting with friends on AOL Instant Messenger, talking to a friend on Yahoo Messenger, and sitting in an IRC channel all at the same time."
So, basically you can use gaim to talk to your MSN contacts (they don't need to change) and your Yahoo! contacts (they don't need to change) at the same time, and you don't have to run two programs on your PC.
Does that make it more compelling for you?

But then the minute anyone starts talking computer speak they might as well be talking Swahili!!
It may be more compelling once I get the Swahili translated!

Install it.
It'll be great! Probably.

I don't use MSN or Yahoo! Messenger, so I don't need Gaim. You, on the other hand, were cursing the problems caused by MSN, so I merely offered a practical solution.quote:Originally posted by maggies mum

But seriously, it's free, it should be easy to set up and use, and you'll never have to upgrade MSN again.
Not all of my responses here are knee-jerk anti-Microsoft diatribes.
