Argh!! Bl#*##y Telecom Internet conncetions

Anyone who has heard loud screaming echoing around the Wairarapa - its me.

Our dial up internet is slow but has been on its best behaviour for the last 6 months or so, till this last week - all of a sudden when I get a connection I keep getting disconnected every 60 to 90 seconds about 20 times in a row till I say stuff it and give up. The error message is always something like you have been disconnected by the computer you dialled - but Telecom say they "never" disconnect anyone (yeah right!)

Today its been a case of dialing up 17 times to get a connection - each time I kept getting an error message that my system couldnt connect with the computer I dialled -grrrr.

Its all very well but I am trying to study extrmural university papers, both of which have a web based component and its really stuffing up my study:(

It commonly known as the Hokey Cokey syndrome...in...out...in....out you throw your computer out!

Don't be mistaken into believing the other end computers are knocking you off, that is a mislabeled error message which basically means "I cannot get a reliable connection". Someone at microsoft got lazy when writing the windows software that does the connecting.

What it basically means is you probably have a bad phone line, or noise in the line. Probably caused by... (flips through excuse pad)... Mars rising through Venus, and uh - anti-veridian shockwaves caused by swamp gas. Yeah, that's it!

And I have managed to stay connected for 54 mins so far - miracles do happen!

It's not only you and it's not only dial-up. I can be offline up to 20 times in an evening.......

and I'm on broadband!!!!

Is it error 678? device on the other computer not responding? I get that a lot too.

then you will know the frustration.. after having 3 technos tell me there is nuffink wrong with the line out at the road and it MUST be my house, the connections were zero for the past 2 days, with a maybe glance that there is a world out there.. and then to make matters worse,they also turn up as Im steppping out of the shower racing off to work... when I refuse to stop and chat and hear the usual statement..they get offended ggggrrrrrrr no one else gets visits at 6 am as they get ready for work, .. whe I say it is worse when there are puddles on the ground, and my house isnt full of water I get told that there is humidity in my house.. excuse me.. with my 1/2inch gaps in my tongue and groove flooring there is no warmth/humidity/ shelter.
shall have to play host on wed tho and hope I can keep my cool
anyway ccrk9 it is nice to see that Im not the only one and we shall have to get K303 to come visit with his machine...

anyway its been good (so far)today. I wouldnt mind but I'm paying only slightly less than the broadband rate for full time dial up and I cant always get it!! trouble is I dont want broadbamd yet as I have a very old computer that may not cope with it and I dont want/cannot afford the extra few $$ per month for broadband. Maybe I'll win Lotto and get it all sorted;) (if only I could afford a ticket).
