I have put something in the dishwasher (whereas instructions said don't) I think it is made of aluminium (parts of a electric mincer) it has come out quite greasy and black splotches, is there someway I can clean it back like new again.

I found the following online:
When washed in a dishwasher, aluminum cookware can react and darken due to mineral content in the water, chemicals in the detergent or high heat from the dryer. Natural products such as lemon juice, vinegar or cream of tartar remove discoloration and provide fast, effective results without damaging the metal.

Only had malt vinegar which I had moderate success with, will try cream of tartar.

5 acres, Ferguson 35X and implements, Hanmay pto shredder, BMW Z3, Countax ride on mower, chooks, Dorper and Wiltshire sheep. Bosky wood burning central heating stove and radiators. Retro caravan. Growing our own food and preserving it. Small vineyard, crap wine.

from what you say, it sounds like it is the mincer attachment that has been affected? Aluminium will oxidise quickly under certain conditions. The caustic soda in the dishwasher detergent will do this. It is only cosmetic so I would get a 'Brillo' pad and give it a good polish, that should fix it. In future, just use hot soapy water to clean it!

You seem to right Tony, also had only moderate success with boiling for 10 minutes 2 tablespoons of cream of tartar in 1 litre of water, so went over it with steelo pad and although not back to new is quite satisfactory.
