It's been 'one of those days' yesterday and today

Yesterday, I got my very first speeding fine in 30 years of driving. 10kms over the speed limit. Buggar. It's a fair cop. Somewhere in a police office is a lovely little glossy photo of me breaking the law.
There goes $30.

Today I was in Pukekohe helping out some friends. Afterwards, they got in their car and went home and I went to the bank around the corner. When I got back to the car I felt in my pockets for the keys, they weren't there. I looked in the car and there they were grinning, at me in a smirky sort of way, from the ignition. [}:)]

I went into the tyre shop next door on the hunt for a bit of wire. (I've never managed to get my car unlocked with a bit of wire before and I didn't like my chances today but I couldn't stand around dithering.) The tyre shop sent me to the garage across the road. "If not some wire, could I pay to use your phone?" They sent me around to the workshop at the back. There was no one in sight. I tootled across the drive to Marshalls Batteries and asked the bloke behind the counter if he could lend me a bit of wire. He said if I had $20 he could do better than that. I agreed wholeheartedly, I just wanted to get into my car. With a $600 kit for getting into cars, he wedged the rubber back and poked around with a couple of different shaped bits of wire and PING! the knobs came up. YAY!!!

Tonight, Kim was cleaning the oven door and it detached itself somehow and wouldn't shut. We've had the manual out but it only has one line drawing of a generic stove and nothing about the door.
I chipped the enamel off the draw at the bottom and a bit off the area where the hinges go in. It just doesn't seem possible that the style of hinge could possibly fit into the hole it's supposed to.
The manual also maintains the oven has a deflector sheild which pulls out when the grill is being used to stop the control knobs from getting hot. I can't find this defleactor shield. I have looked for it. I got the torch out and shone it into the areas in shadow. Nothing. My next question is, 'Am I going nuts here?' I checked the manual again, back to the stove, back to the manual, get the torch, shine it here there and everywhere. No! It's not there. There doesn't seem to be any provision for one.

The last time I messed with an oven door, I had it open, cleaning inside the oven and decided life would be easier if I just took the door off. I did this while the door was open and placing my thumbs as close to the hinges as I could to balance the weight. As soon as I lifted the hinges clear of whatever it was holding them in place, they both snapped back towards the door. Ooooh the pain! I thought I'd broken both my thumbs. I did remark on the fact that I would now probably not be able to cook tea so at least I got dinner out that night. That happened in the mid 80's and it's not something I shall forget in a hurry.

I hope I can consider these three things as a combined effort and things will improve now. I mean, they're not really bad things, just inconvienient and frustrating, the speeding fine I would consider justice and it serves me right..... it's just that so far this week I've had to pay $50 unexpected dollars for actions involving the car.

It's up for a warrant soon and the ute is still off the road until it has a resgistration and a warrant. I can't say I have too much optimisim on getting a warrant for the car either.

If things continue in this vein, the horse and cart idea seem more and more appealing. Travelling times may have to be taken into consideration though.

The score so far is oven 1, user of said oven, nil.

My next trick was to pick up the whistling kettle which had just been screaming like a banshee and try to pour the boiling water into the cups. My hand touched the metal holding the bottom of the handle on and I briefly lost control of the pouring action. Hot water went all over the bench top. It was a mere whiff away from covering a portion of the floor where my sock covered foot was. Oh the joys! It stayed on the bench and made a puddle.

Tomorrows another day..... well actually, it's now tomorrow is today and today is now yesterday...... I think I'd better go to bed before I inadvertantly line myself up for another hassle.

Is HP's (is it a cafe or restuarant? ) open on Sundays!?

Just had a wild thought we could stop off their for grub on the way back from Auckland, or is he too off the main road??

Haven't even run it past my weekend buddies yet!

Sorry MM, the keyboard and mouse cable fell out of the back of the computer and I didn't know which holes they went into (read; too lazy to get down and have a grope around in the dark under the desk)

Yes, Cafe Kaos and the BlueOrange gallery are open on the weekend from sometime in the morning (10am?) until 3pm.
I'm not sure if it's their weekend on this weekend though. If you e-mail him he'll let you know.

To get there, you take the Pukekohe exit from the Bombays (Caltex on one side, B.P on the other, I think it's called Mill Road) Not far down this stretch is a big sign telling you the way to Tuakau, it's a left turn and just keep going on that road. There are a couple of 45 degree angle corners so tell himself or whoever is driving to watch these. I nearly got taken out by some git using ALL of the road to get around one of them and I was driving H.P and his O.H's car at the time.
Anyways, this road takes you into Tuakau. Over the railway lines, past the pub, almost at the end of the shops, on the left, is the cafe. There's a car park between the butchers and the cafe.

To continue onto Hamilton afterwards, go back the way you came as far as the Tuakau pub. Turn right at the pub and follow the road past the wood mill, the grain silos and the Gull petrol station to the end, turn left and that road will bring you out onto Great South Road in Pokeno, turn right into Pokeno go past the shops, keep going and you'll end up back on the motorway. This is more direct than going back up through the Bombays.

To top off my Wednesday the other night. The oven door came unhinged mentally and neither of us could figure out why it wouldn't shut. I had to have a sit down and a think. Long story about silly little metal bits and where they were and where they should have been and which bit was to go where and how. With my brain and mind at half mast I fiddled with these little bits and somehow it went back on and worked. Aaaagggghhhh! *Sigh*

Now I would be succumbing to old age if I were to throw me drawers at Topol now wouldn't I?

I would like to think that I was still of the age that throws their drawers at Robbie Williams!
