These make for interesting reading on non-therapeutic use of antibiotics in livestock and antibiotic resistance bacteria;

Hopefully the TPPA will not foist this problem onto us here in NZ too (could a ban on the non-therapeutic use of antibiotics be construed to be a "technical trade barrier"?)

I'm not surprised at the articles.

It has long been a concern of the medical field that "their" antibiotics were "being miss-used by agriculture" and their greatest concern has been: What If Doctors end up with no antibiotics that are effective??

MRSA was a medical nightmare: but that has been superseded by more recent "Superbugs" that are increasing.
A few years ago Vancomycin was one of the last of "the big guns" available for treating serious infections. But now there is Vancomycin Resistant... MRSA, and a bunch of other superbugs.

http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2014-04/uoth-nms041714.php

There is no "YUM" involved with nursing antibiotic resistant bacteria infected patients in isolation units! Or with having it get loose in an Intensive Care Unit, or having those patients go to Theatre for surgery... or having the superbug win!

For more information that is scary, just Google "Superbugs" or Vancomycin resistant MRSA, or VRE (Vancomycin resistant enterococci), or superbug CRE, or... turn off the computer!
Im out of here!
