IRD payment change was created by spoook
Latest notice tells us that from 1st October they will no longer accept cheques put in the mail on the date due. It has to be there by date due.

I assume they will still make allowance if the due date falls on the weekend?

I really must get into the habit of doing relevant returns as soon as I can.

Why not just do it online? Then you can do it on the due date if you want to. Far easier!

I could marry one, I suppose, but I wonder if Stephan would mind? Maybe he could marry one.

No, I'll just keep doing the GST ...

Cheese maker, outdoorsman and chief cook to accountant seems a rather big leap! :)

Did you know, that what you thought I said, was not what I meant :S

I do do it online. [:I] Embarrassed to say, always at the last moment. Have done it that way for years, will have to teach this old dog new tricks to take the pressure off.[}:)]

I don't know. He's pretty damned good on everything that matters, that I think I'll let the accountancy demands go. Having ironed out the final crease in our relationship in the last couple of days, I can't really imagine anything being better!

He'll probably go and die now, or something. That would really piss me off.

Good lord Ruth, you don't want that to happen[:0][:0][:0][:0][:0]. Think of all the hassle of breaking in a new one.

Recently I came off the pill after 17 years of beautiful calmness :D .....doc put me back on after 5 months of unmitigated hell as the ovaries decided to throw shebang party after party[}:)]....hubby asked whether I could warn him the next time the doc thinks I should come off them.....all so he could get in a replacement and have me train them up! The gall of the man.

So funny youse all are..... :D

Back to IRD. when I was employed elsewhere the Accountant who did our ''books'' was participating in some sort of rural response to IRD about how returns in rural areas would take longer to get to IRD due to mail issues etc and they should give additional allowances for rural mail.

So there is a thought.... and I have another one for you but on a sadder note..

For the last few months I was transporting Dad between appointments for Bowel Cancer. We went between Middlemore, Superclinic at Manukau, GP etc. It didn't leave much time for ''my stuff'' and I fell behind with the monthly GST returns.

IRD send statements which are dicky things to read at the best of times and so from time to time I logged into one of our accounts to check nothing was outstanding and in the accounts section, it shows nothing. I received a dear john letter from IRD that stated otherwise. As the following monthly GST summary showed we were due a credit far greater than their Dear John letter, I let it go. Naturally IRD have held up that monthly return whilst they investigate....

IRD called me about the dear john letter. I advised them about when logging into the account summary nothing shows as being overdue or even owing.... they are going to refer it to their IT dept as a customer request.

So,, if you find yourself in the same position, this is what happened to us. I'm still waiting for the credit return to be processed, and I am still waiting for a formal reply from IRD technology dept as to why our account shows 0 but they send Dear John letters.

Just a thought. [;)] and do compare your on line account summaries with your monthly statements.

And back to IRD.
Spook you can pay it online when the bill comes in, but can specify which date it is to go out on.
So you can do it today, to go into IRD's account on say the 28th and they dont get any more of your money any earlier than they should.
