A question about power lines

During the last power outage the local lines company pointed out what I thought was one of their 11kv power lines and poles across my property going to another property and said it was a "private line". I have never heard of a private 11kv line and there is no mention of it on my property file. Could this be true? Is there such a thing as a private 11kv line? Has anyone any experience of this?

Many rural properties have private lines, from the transformer across your property, the lines and poles are your responsibility.
Not sure about the voltage of these lines tho

Thanks for that ,I am aware that lines from the transformer are the property owners responsibility but this is a single wire, high voltage, fairly sure it is 11kv.

If it is going to another property, there should be an easement on your title. If not, you would be within your rights to remove the poles should they ever need maintenance rather than pay the repair bill.

If the poles need maintenance, the owner of the line, which is not you since it only transverses your property, bears the cost of said maintenance.

We had a private line on the farm at Kawhia harbour, a straight high voltage splice into the lines down by the road and up the hill to the house, with the transformer on the pole by the house, not on the pole down at the road. But this was all on the land mum owned, not crossing anyone elses land.
