Freeview TV learning curve :-(

Well that will teach us.
We had a freeview decoder that locked its self. On searching the net we find it is not likely that we can unlock it. [:(!]
Unit now rubbish. [xx(]

So ..... we bought a freeview TV, have just connected it up to the existing cables from the old unit and gone through the auto scan, found nothing, not one channel. :(

Connected it to the Sky only cable, found the Sky channel no problem. Not what we want but shows TV is working.

Try the other cable, nothing, read manual................. nothing.

Back to Google.......... bugger, poos.
All TV freeview units only work on UHF aerials.
Now it looks like we need to buy a satellite decoder to make it work or we have to install a uhf aerial.
Anyone want a free old TV, works with a decoder?

Spook, not all areas will take a tv with an internal decoder. I know this area doesnt as a few other local areas. I asked before I bought a tv with a decoder in it.
I am not very technical on such matters but someone else had warned me beforehand, hence I asked before I bought, or should I say didnt buy!

An alternate for you.

Here's a free Sky install and free Sky decoder to 31 December offer on at the moment;

www.skytv.co.nz/Default.aspx?tabid=1840

We moved recently and wanted the aerial located in a different spot than where it was located by the previous owners - so took them up on the offer.

Proof that some things in life really are free :D :D :D .

Yes OH bought a TV with inbuilt freeview, then we moved here and there is no coverage, so it is a decoder box for each TV and a sky dish on the roof.

Thanks Aria, we already have Sky. We have no good coverage for ordinary TV.
This is for our sleepout. Sky is in all other rooms but all the same channel, this TV would allow other channel to be watched without having to pay another $25 to Sky.

We will be having the signal checked tomorrow to see if it is worth getting a uhf aerial installed. If not, then I guess it is another satellite decoder. :(

They could advertise it better. [B)]

Do you have a sky dish? As they are uhf, just need to point it in the right direction

Yes, we do have a Sky dish. Point in the right direction? Surely that would mess up Sky reception? We are not giving up Sky, just adding Freeview.

I bought a Dreambox 500s satellite decoder off trademe set up for freeview, and while there are no longer Australian channels for it to decode, I still find it better than any built-into television freeview. The channels switch faster, there's no "loading..." when I load up the guide as it's just there, and it's easier to view what's on all channels at the same time.

If you have sky then all the free view channels are on it.
