Thanks for your question. You need both numbers because they relate to two different programmes - the national animal identification and tracing scheme (NAIT), and the TBfree New Zealand scheme. A NAIT number links you to your property and individual animals on your property. This information will enable New Zealand to respond quickly if there is a biosecurity incursion or a food safety concern. A herd number relates to the group of animals on your property, and is used for TB testing and management purposes.
