and did it work for you. I am thinking about trying it, but it is not cheap. Is there anywhere you can research how good a particular therapist is? Talking to one in Paraparaumu at the moment.
Both times I gave up smoking I used hypnotherapy. The first time it was instant - no desire to smoke. That lasted 2 years. A catastrophic event in my life cassed me to start smoking again. The 2nd time I used it , although it did sort of work, was a lot different. Or perhaps the physical cravings were too strong or whatever, it was not as easy to give up. But I was determined and used another of the give-up-aides as well and hey presto - its now been 23 years since I had a smoke
Used a different therapist both times so whether that was was difference or what I have no idea. But happy with the results both times.
OTT I was just talking to SOH about having acupuncture done on a muscle in my heel that refuses to get better, he mentioned (apart from foot acupuncture hurting) that he had acupuncture to help him give up smoking years ago. It didn't work.
I only mention this as a few of you mentioned giving up smoking.
I got to my 31st birthday and decided that I'd smoked more than half my life, Couldn't say what I got from it, Certainly didn't enjoy it, Was fed up with being crook all the time.
Decided I'd quit. Gave away the last of my Tobacco, Papers, Filters, Lighters and Cigars and haven't gone back to it, Will be 2 years in February.
If you WANT to quit, You will, But you have to do it for you..
I'm with you on this on Aquila - I've smoked for more than half of my life and know I should be quitting - however, I don't want to right now. I've stopped a couple of times over the years but longest was for 3 months. You have to really want to stop and I believe you also have to be in a really good space in life to be successful. And you are right - you have to do it for you, nobody else.
Hypnotherapy can be very helpful but first the therapist needs to ensure that you are hypnotisable, not everyone is. They should belong to a body such a the New Zealand Society of Hypnosis BUT there are no guidelines to determine who can be a hypnotherapist, there is no formal qualification, no professional body overseeing what they do. You have to be careful who you choose. I would contact NZSH www.nzsh.org.nz and ask for recommendations, they have professionals such as medically trained personnel and psychologists (I declare my conflict as I am one and have attented training through the society). Be careful! When it's good its very very good, when it's bad it can be damaging.

make me a sandwhich.
A friend did it to help her loose weight. It worked really well and continued to work. Hypnotist also gave her advice about changing lifestyle, dealing with issues underlying overeating etc etc. She went away with a CD to continue to play to herself. A couple of sessions started her on the right road and with alterations to her lifestyle, eating patterns etc (which she did on her own, but was prompted by hypnotist) she steadily lost weight and kept it off for the first time in her life.
