Lucky the boat doesn't founder with 4 million Kiwis riding every wave with team NZ. :D

yes true, the americans carried all that extra balast too - but they lost two points for their extra weights

I read a report that a lot of San Franciscans were cheering for Team NZ because they were so unhappy with the "local" team that they do NOT want the Cup there again with that team.

Loved Oracles skippers comments on the news tonight - "one day you are a rooster and the next, a feather duster" sort of sums it up really.........

Blueberry, I think its great for nz.
Unlike the Rugby world cup which just generates people coming to watch the matches, the americas cup not only brings the observers but injects a huge amount into the NZ economy.
The injection into the boat building community alone is huge
There is lots we cant afford but we do it anyway

it's all a matter of priorities, isn't it?
We cannot afford medication for sick New Zealanders.
We cannot afford proper biological protection for our borders.
We cannot afford enough police to properly protect our people.
We cannot afford enough prisons to properly separate dangerous criminals from the rest of the population.
We cannot afford to educate our youth without weighing them down for decades with student loans.
But we can afford to waste money on sporting events? - Go figure

I couldnt agree more Blueberry with your sentiments
But sport, like it or hate it, actually does a lot for society in other ways
I am not a sportsperson myself but can see the good it does for children, especially teenagers when you look at what the non-sporting kids are up to
Money will be spent on sport and I would rather see it go to an event like this than some other sporting alternatives

I'm not a fan of rugby, my perception of that is just booze and brawn, but sailing has me glued to the set and I can't get anything done until the racing is over for the day, if anyone has ever sailed a catamaran they know how difficult they are to tack, and to see NZ's boat up on it's foils doing 70kph then smoothly tacking though the wind, that's remarkable, it's NZ technology taking on the world, you can't get better advertising than that, and must be worth more to our exporters than what it's costs to run.

Maybe Oracle will get their boat built here next time then?
When we lost the americas cup last time, there were huge lay offs in auckland in the boat building industry over the years following
They pity is that everyone is already planning the cup here and we havent won this round yet.
Anything could happen between now and the end

Last time the Cup was here it lifted Boat Building by around $400 Million a year and is still continuing. It kept us busy for several months supplying the Overseas boats that toured around Central NZ. And many have returned just to see more of the country. And oh yes they maintained the fresh goods which were ALL locally grown were the best tasting and quality they had had anywhere in the World.[8D][8D] The Investment by both Governments is still earning us a return and continues to do so. It is really cheap advertising. Did you know the huge Whaka is in San Francisco and entertained a huge number of top Silicon Valley operators by NZ companies, recently and was very successful for NZ, only their because of the Americas cup? The cup in NZ kept me in Business with staff during a tough time. :) A lot of tax GST etc that is generated assists those problems that you state above. Some of the problems above are attitude not not money.

OMG, the first race this morning [:0] [:0] [:0] Look here for the near major capsize.

The USA boat has been modified, surely it should not be done once the races have started. Repaired, maintained yes, but modified?????
More unsportsmanlike tactics from US?

Second race just about to start.........
