Why are we supposed to give a fat rat's arse about dicks who couldn't be bothered to sort out their television before the changeover? Why are certain groups getting subsidised to make the changes? Since when has television been a necessity of life?

I agree igor.It all depends on your age but you might remember when families were proper families before tv.Now the children come home from school and on goes the idiot box.Gone are the days when most families sat around after dinner and communicated with each other.

there's never enough on TV, that's why you need to record it all to watch just incase you felt like you had time to do something productive outside work.

(take down your letterbox - win!)

dude. smoking dope and drinking bourbon all day isn't as easy as you might think. and we couldn't possibly have those types thinking for themselves, so they do need tv. it's in your best interests too. thanks socialism!

Hi,

Circulars are usualy good for lighting the fire with (if you don't get newspapers).

If you don't have a fire, or don't want the circulars regardless - put "no circulars" or "no unaddressed mail" etc on your letter box.

When some of the junk mail pushers inevitably ignore the sign on your letterbox, you can take great satisfaction in stuffing the junkmail into those free "post paid reply" envelopes that they also put in your letterbox, and sending them on their way! (that way the advertisers have to pay for the postage, and have to deal with the junk comming back to their office [}:)])

Cheers

Only three groups are subsidised. Those who are aged 75 and over with a Community Services Card; or recipients of a Veteran’s Pension or Invalids’ Benefit; or former Veteran’s Pension and Invalid’s Benefit recipients who transferred to NZ Superannuation at age 65 or over.

Most will have older tvs, not the modern digital ones with freeview preinstalled. They get a basic box, and aerial if needed, for one tv. They don't get it if they have already got the equipment.

Are you really going to begrudge this subsidy for those who really cannot afford it.

1 Border Terrier, 5 hens, 5 chicks, an orchard and vege garden. All on 350 square metres.

I found an article on the herald site about junk mail.Evidently the days might be numbered for allowing people to deliver it.There is a guy Wayne Thompson who seems to enjoy delivering it to letter boxes that have no junk mail signs. Most comments on the herald site are against junk mail.If it is addressed to me i just bounce it back.
