I dont read that into her description at all but $400 is a bit much for a dog of that age.At least it should bypass those who see "free dog"

I read the problems as well - sorry GS. Point one - who has a female dog (GS) that does not instinctively love men? Was she abused by a man? She is an inside dog - dear God - they are a working dog so what kind of life has she had as an inside dog (mine would NOT come into the house as she preferred to be outside watching her territory). She is not good with sheep - has she not had any training to respond to a No from her owners. My Poodle X can do that and does. I would be concerned that someone is being asked to take on a dog (bitch), an intelligent breed, that is out of control from lack of training and a life. That to me is a problem. Hope I am wrong.

You are forgiven! I was in the Pet shop today and I could have gathered every one of those puppies into my arms and loved and cared for them. Reality bite - I could not do them justice for the next 15 years as I am getting older. You are just a softie!

i will never ever go into any petshop that sells puppies. Most of them get them from puppy farms or are puppy farmers themselves. There was one in Papakura. It has now closed down. And yes i AM a softie when it comes to dogs.i want nearly every german shepherd that is advertised on that site.
Didi,do you have horses?I used to ave one of Bremners quarter horses years ago.I really miss being around them.I love the hunter type and also the quarter horse type.I have seen some really nice appys about.I have had a few horses over the years.I had the use of a lovely quiet mare at Drury years ago.I had a lot of fun with her. When i had my last horse, the people i rode with would ask me what i was saying.I used to chat away to my horse always. My quarter horse would try to pig root and from behind it was funny to watch as his backside was almost the size of a bus.

i always thought the puppy farm label applied to places where dogs live in pens and just continually breed. i would not have thought there were enough of these throughout the country to supply every pet shop. i am sure plenty of puppies come from breeders who do a much better job than that.

puppy farmers, have been supplying petshops for a long time and you only have to look on TM to see the large numbers of them are alive and well and breeding, anything they can, along with a fancy name.
Most responsible and serious (pedigree) breeders would never supply pups to a pet shop.

Well said Kalmara.I saw an animal control person taking a pup in to a local petshop once and i think tardme has increased the number of puppy farmers. There is even one moron who has germanshepherd/belgian shepherd cross pups who thinks it is a rare cross and the pups are over $1000 and on the other hand there is a puppy farmer n the Opotiki area who is doing the same cross for under $400

so what distinguishes a puppy farm from a breeder. i assume you don't get called a farm because your dogs are not registered pedigrees?

Quantity over quality.

thats about what i thought too. i do not see how labelling anyone who provides a puppy to a pet shop as a puppy farmer is just. however, i do not really want to start a long discussion on the matter, i am probably just someone wwho does not like to see blanket labels being applied to people.

forget i spoke/typed.

I agree with you tonic. Labeling in this case is daft. Whether the puppies are planned or not, it is the reality of life and those less knowledgeable may not know how to abort an unplanned pregnancy in their bitch so they go on and have the puppies. That is not puppy farming.

It is not a good thing either given no one has any knowledge of the pedigree (so many are a guess) but that is the reality of life. Puppies are sold to people without any contract to spey or neuter them and this is the result.

Embarassed to say as Veterinary people, our pure bred, outside GS had to be aborted twice after visits from the local working dogs. We thought she was safe in our yard but no. The second time I was taking her out for a break, to the mailbox and this dog just appeared. Pathetic I know but also aware of just how fast this can all happen!

people who just have dogs to make money out of and not to look on them as pets.People who breed from them time after time and absolutely no concern for their welfare.I saw some evidence of this a few years ago.A well known akita owner had some small dogs in cages and all they were there for is pumping pups out of.I didn't feel good at all for being there.Pups that come from petshops dont generally get the much needed socialising and they are quite often in hot pens and sometimes hot glass cages.Sometimes they are well underage.Lots of pups have health issues. They are there to make money out of.
