To inderstand the tongue is to understand the issue. Some people have more taste buds than others. So they taste more. I would expect them to prefer vegemite. Those with less taste buds will probably cope better with marmite. And some smokers will probably prefer marmite as their taste buds strength can be lessened.

Personally I think the new marmite, ( I used to work in the marmite packaging dept) is less strong than it used to be, or my marmite was always less fresh and therefore possibly stronger, by the time I used it as, I kept alot of stock, knowing it wouldn't go off. It was thicker than this fresh stuff. But it could also be a ploy by Sanitarium to gain new customers from the freebies that were giving out, by bringing it back, not as strong, and more like vegemite. Who knows, I eat both, but prefer marmite.

Has to be English Marmite much better than those namby pamby kiwi/Aussie versions. You don't need much and probably more like the local Vegemite. Kiwi marmite is quite sweet to me and as my daughter aged 12 has just discovered it I now have to buy it!
I always stock up on visits to UK but honestly can just as easily buy from UK shop down the road.

ZummersetGirl I think your hubby means 'Our Mate'. They are not allowed to call it Marmite in NZ because of the competition/same name as kiwi one.
