connecting a dvd player...

Now we have a separate DVD player.[:0][8D] I can connect the DVD to the monitor using the composite video cable. But the Audio output from the DVD player (right and left) don't have corresponding ports in the montior. I thought that if I told you what ports the monitor and DVD player have, one of you clever people could tell me if there was any way I can make this work....
Monitor:DVI-D, s-video
DVD player:Audio left, audio right, coaxial digital audio out, s-video out, optical digital audio out, 5.1 channel out.
I have worked out how to play the audio through our stereo speakers but would rather play it through the monitor's soundbar...if possible.
Can anyone help?

I guess it has to be a three-way link up between the DVD player, the stereo and the monitor or back to the laptop... The three way link up will mean buying some really long cables or totally reorganising a room. Bugger!

Failing that you could try these parts from Jaycar ( www.jaycar.co.nz ). I *think* it'll work, can you see how to hook them up?
WA7014 3.5mm Stereo Plug to 2 x RCA Plugs Audio Lead - 1.5mt $6.20
PA3583 3.5MM STEREO SOCKET TO 3.5MM STEREO SOCKET $2.60
There is a 3m version of the cable as well.
There is a caveat in that the DVD output might not match the PC audio output. It could be too high or too low. If it's the former, make sure the volume on the speaker bar is set way low before trying it out, if it's the latter it might not work at all. In fact, start with it low first then try turning it up slowly.
Good luck,
