A short rant about email etiquette...

It's something that has bothered me for some time - the email style from some people that is abrupt bordering on the rude and bad tempered, and they don't even know that is the impression they are giving! :(

Today was the final straw - two emails that upset me quite a bit because the tone of them came across as if I had really stuffed up and they were really annoyed with me [:0]. When questioned, it was 'oh, I didn't mean that at all!'

I wish people would take a deep breath before clicking on send and take the time to reread what they have written and think carefully about how the recipient will interpret both the message and through it, the mood of the sender!

Unfortunately with business emails you can't really use smilies (unless you know the person really well) so that makes it even harder...[V]

Never mind, rant over, will go and have a nice cup of tea and think about a weekend (mainly) free of email communications! [:I]

Take a break...while I take care of your home, your block, your pets, your stock! [;)] PM me...

Whitheze...why are you so far ahead of us, time-wise? I mean, it's only 19:14 now but you posted the SNAW post at least ten minutes ago and it says 19:53. Same with your post in the LSB bird thread..... Is there something you'd like to share with us?

I'm still reeling from the reply I got to an email I sent aaaaaaaaaaages ago to someone who had been having a go at me online (this is over a year ago) where I very diplomatically and honestly and, I thought, nicely, tried to explain my feelings over the situation only to be told to F*** off in the reply email. I assume the recipient got completely the wrong end of the stick but I didn't seek clarification - I mean who can be bothered, I tried and failed and aside from being deeply offended, decided I didn't care what this person thought of me, LOL!

I make a point of trying to be as like I am in the 'real' world in the cyber world and I always try really hard to read anything I write from the standpoint of someone else reading from a different viewpoint but, no matter how hard I try, inevitably someone somewhere completely gets the wrong impression. I have had people go so far as to try and ruin my personal/professional life because they have issues with things I have said online. In fact I have completely given up on one online noticeboard now because some of the personalities there just make me feel so uncomfortable and unwelcome. One thing I have definitely learned in recent years is that there are some psychologically twisted folk out there - always be careful!

I have a lot of great friends I have made that I have met through the internet but OMG some people are just so rude and seem to think that hiding behind a keyboard makes it ok to be rude or just plain nasty to other people. What's with that?!
