Email issues
My new computer was installed this morning. The tech transferred all the data from the old one to the new(ish) one. Didn't tell me I would lose all the passwords as well

I am unable to send emails thru Outlook at present. I keep getting an error message. I rang the tech and he tells me it is my web hosts problem and to contact them. The lady who can deal with this only works mornings so will have to wait till tomorrow. But I suspect it may be something the tech has forgotten to do. He did not do a check on sending emails before he left.
Can anyone give me any ideas where to look? I am sure it is something minor that needs sorting and dont believe it is my ISP's fault as was working perfectly well till the tech was here.
Any ideas anyone??
Cheers

Ronnie, it would be helpful to know what the error message is.
Does your old PC still boot? If so then compare the email account details. In particular take note of the Outgoing Server settings and the 'My outgoing server(SMTP) requires authentication' setting.

So you could try disabling Norton Antivirus (if you have it) from scanning outgoing email messages and see if that helps. If it does, then talk to your tech. again about a permanent solution to the problem.Task 'mailbox name - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC62): 'Your
outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server has reported an internal error. If you
continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or
Internet service provider (ISP).'
Anyway, it ended up being Norton Antivirus 2002 that was screwing
things up. By default, it was set to scan both incoming and outgoing
mail, and for whatever reason (lack of IMAP or SSL support??) it would
make Outlook/Outlook Express do the wacky.

Windows 7 does not have Outlook. I'm using Thunderbird which I have struggled to like having always used Windows Mail but am fine now.
As for IMAP - no way. WARNING - It sent an email for my Draft Folder that I had saved to work on further. Some people have had incredibly embarassing outcomes if you Google it.

Well I use IMAP all day every day on both Windows XP and 7 and haven't had any problems at all. It lets me keep my desktop PC and laptop in sync. regarding email. It does take a bit of setting up, but the extra convenience of being able to access all my emails -- no matter whether I'm at home, or away somewhere -- is worth it.DiDi;435053 wrote: ...

Agreed - Thunderbird is great. It took me some getting used to as well, after having used Outlook Express for 13 or 14 years, but I would never go back now.

I would suspect that you don't have authentication enabled on your Outgoing Server (SMTP) settings.ronnie;434971 wrote: Thanks Kiwi Jon,

The tech who installed the new computer says he copied everything from the old computer to the new one so it is Woosh's fault so doesnt want to know.
Woosh say that as I am getting incoming emails and access to internet it is not their fault and they dont want to know.
My webhosts have gone thru all the settings with me and looked into everything from their end so say there is nothing further they can do so basically dont want to know.
here it is friday afternoon and I still cannot send an email without going thru a lot of hoops and it is a ruddy nuisance.
The recurring theme here is that it may be something to do with upgrading from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2007. But who do I contact about that??
Any one have any other ideas please. I am stressing out big time.

Ronnie, the email settings remain the same when upgrading from Outlook 2003 to 2007/2010. I have done plenty of upgrades with no issues.
I am assuming you have 2 email accounts set up, an @woosh.co.nz account and an @kozitoez.co.nz account. The @woosh.co.nz account should be set as the default email account as all outgoing email needs to go via the woosh email servers.
If you like you could take screenshots of all the email account settings and either PM them to me or email them.

The default setting is the @kozitoez.co.nz one. The secondary one is an @xtra.co.nz one. Don't seem to have a woosh one anywhere to be found which is why they dont want to know.
Both the incoming and outgoing address is set up as the same, which is the .kozitoez.co.nz one.
Have never used the woosh address as far as I know. My email is set up to reply from the business rather than personal, if that makes sense.
I still feel it could be something in this computer that just need ticking somewhere to make it work. Everything else works beautifully. But we have been over and over the settings (under tools) and it just will not work and gives the message as above.

If you're on woosh, are your smtp settings like this? I had to do that with my previous BB provider, even with my own domain.
- SMTP (outbound) server smtp.woosh.co.nz Port 25

Correct. Most ISP's do not allow you to relay email on SMTP port 25 i.e they only allow you to send email via their own email servers. This in an effort to stop spambot infected PC's from sending spam.
Ronnie, your webhost has an alternate SMTP port on port 587. In the email account settings for kozitoez.co.nz go to 'more settings' - 'Advanced' and change 'Outgoing Server (SMTP) to 587 from 25 - OK - Next - Finish.
