How do I do this?
Why do people make pdf files to e-mail for entry forms / membership forms etc that the receiver can't edit and e-mail back? I hate having to print out, fill in, scan and e-mail back. What a waste of time.

You could always open it in paint & insert text boxes into the spaces

It's not very easy and I don't understand why people do it. I've tried converting pdf docs to word before using various free software programs and the formatting always comes out so strangely that it's largely pointless.
Have you tried asking them if they have the original pre-pdf version that you could use? Often it's been done in word and then pdf'ed to make the file smaller or sometimes to stop people from changing it - which seems idiotic when it's a form they need you to fill in...

If its been saved as a pdf form, you should just be able to type into the fields. If its not, then if you have the full version of acrobat, you can add text to it.

Thanks for this - I'm one of those business' that do just that because it's trying to figure out just what program the person at the other end may have and everyone usually has a pdf reader. Also means the form comes thru exactly as I sent it. I've often put them in a spreadsheet as I am not from the Word generation. But at least now I can stick them in a pdf and give them a link to somewhere that may help them fill in the form.

funnily enough, I've just been sent a pdf doc and asked to fill it in and send it back! I have no way of doing this unless I can find somewhere to scan it... so i'm trying the free programs suggested above. Thanks! (it's not been done as a pdf form btw)

Well, Nitro hasn't worked as the pdf doc is passworded & has all types of protection on it.
and...
the tracker software won't do anything either.

I used Nitro and it was great. I did have to make some adjustments to the document, but at least it came back in a form that I could change things.

Was your original document passworded? get them to resend it without the password.

I have a similar problem. Had a quote emailed to me today, but it's a docx file and I presume my word programme is too old to open it. It's trying to convert but nothing on the conversion list will change it from machine language to readable text. How can I access it?

Did you know, that what you thought I said, was not what I meant :S

There are two options, both of them free:

1) Download and install OpenOffice in place of whatever you have now.

2) Upload the file to Google Docs which will allow you to view, print and download it again in a different format if you wish.
