camping sites close to Masterton?.Wairarapa was created by gemini kiwi
My extended family are planning to go camping this Xmas instead of the usual celebrations, first time campers and they are already purchasing items for this epic adventure, probably be away for only a couple of days but they plan to venture further afield as their children and their confidence grows.
looking for somewhere close to Masterton, any suggestions welcome so they could check the sites out before this Xmas. 4 adults and a total of 7 children between them, ranging in age from 2 to 10.
thanks,
GK

DOC "standard" grade campsites at Holdsworth or Wiohine Gorge both good, within 20km of Masterton, and nice options for day tramps.

Thanks for that, will pass this onto them, one child is special needs so they want to stay fairly close to home first time.

There is a campsite right in Masterton near the river and council has just spent lots of money doing it up so might be worth looking at too.

There's one in Greytown very close to town centre which I've camped in too, only for 2 nights, small but met our needs with kitchen and shower block. Might not be exciting or private enough for a large group though.

There's a lovely campground on the back road form Greytown to Martinborough, on the riverbank - can't remember the name, but gorgeous spot.

Down at the cliffs just north of Gladstone. Where the harvest festival is held.

The nice part about living in a small town is that when you don't know what you are doing, someone else does.
