What does everyone use please? I have used advantage in the past and found it useless. Frontline used to be good but the last time I used it about a year ago it didn't do squat. Some googling told me that it worked too well and they changed the formula, don't know if that's true. Anyway what works please?

Bummer! I have used Advantage as a preference for a long time and had no issues with it at all. Was there a Use By date on the packaging possibly? Just checked the calendar and used it on my single cat on the 26th Feb. Definitely not fleas.

Revolution for cats from the Vet.
Cleared the earmite problem and havent seen a flea or tick for the last few months. Comes in a 3 months pack... one tiny .75ml tube per month. It also takes care of roundworm.
Directions say avoid contact with your own skin or breathe fumes. Ok for cat...!

Initially I used a tick and flea shampoo and a Pyrethrum & Tea Tree Oil flea powder which took care of the ticks and fleas (but not the earmites) until we could see our NZ vet.
Revolution is not cheap so may not be suitable for more than one cat. We had a specific problem to deal with, which is why we went with Revolution. Im happy with it.

Just getting the shampoo and flea powder in town was an exercise that stretched my limited French and the shop owner's limited English. lol.

PS. Have you tried using the flea collar? Our 19 yr old cat in NZ wears the flea collar and has no problems until it needs replacing at 3 to 6 months.

We feed our cat 1 teaspoon brewers yeast mixing in his food and up to now he has been free from fleas, when we took him to the vet a couple of months ago to be neutered they found no fleas so we are keeping our fingers crossed.

Just me and the cat now, on 2 acres of fruit and veg + hazel nuts, macadamia, chestnuts and walnuts,

Advocate, I think thats the right spelling, deals with worms as well, except tape worm pill once a year when they have their annual inspecton and vac.

Sorry for the late post, my computer has run out of broadband and dial up has been very slow! Thanks for all the advice. I looked for spot on in Pak N Save, I have never tried it before, but they didn't have any. Does anyone know what supermarket sells it please? Otherwise I will get some revolution from the vet.
DiDi - The Advantage I tried was many many years ago, I never tried it again as my friend said it didn't work on her cat either at the time. I'm usually pretty good at checking use by dates so it was probably in date. I had been using Frontline ever since until a year ago when my elderly cat was pts for kidney failure. It worked really good up until around that time and then I was treating him every 3 weeks at the end and he was full of fleas. I started using the flea comb on him. We now have got a new cat a week ago and she has fleas.
