Try Dunedin dog rescue ( www.dogrescuedunedin.co.nz ) maybe they can help, but that is an awfully short time frame to rehome a dog!

Animal control have only given me 7 days that was last friday. Iv tried dog rescue but as they don't have the room to actually take her in all they can offer is to walk her daily but I'm not allowed to own her any more due to a court order by animal control from barking complaints.

Oh dear, I guess you could surrender her to the SPCA, if she is a nuisance barker that may just prolong the inevitable though.

SPCA do not take in dogs any more. I live in a corner house on a busy road people walk past constantly karma will bark to let them know she's protecting her house it's the elderly who get scared and complain and or the mothers with the kids who walk past and get barked at. Someone mentioned people on here have lifestyle block which would be perfect for karma so I am trying before her time is up

Or Ash try posting it there might get more views

btw welcome to LSB

Animals rule our place... cows, calves, sheep, goats, pigs, horses, donkeys, chickens, ducks... the list goes on
...."lifestyle block like" 25 or so acres around the house attached to a rather large farm with dairy drystock & a 600 cow dairy conversion :)....1500 acres to call home

I'm sorry to hear that Ash. 7 days seems a very short time to rehome a dog and very unreasonable of animal control, I didn't realise they were that militant.

My dog barks at anyone who delivers mail, walks past my house or who comes and goes into my cul de sac (if he's outside) but he's mainly an inside dog and then stops when they have gone.
He doesn't stop if he sees a cat sitting looking at him though.
All the dogs in my cul de sac bark when people come and go and some of them are outside dogs.

Husband, two teenagers, Stanley & Jed the greyhounds, one quail (Hawkefrost), one budgie (Chaos) small productive surburban section.

Ash - there is something not reading right in this thread and that is you not saying what issues you have already had with Animal Control to be given this time line. It doesn't make sense.

Ok - I am North Island and you are South Island and maybe AC act differently but I would suggest that the silence on this thread is that we are well aware (at least up here) as to why AC would have an issue with a dog. They work with people up here to sort things out and I have known the local AC arrange to have a bitch speyed before taking her from her owner. Barking is an annoyance and you (up here) would have been directed how to sort this out before giving your dog a 7 day death sentence.

I hate to be the "bull at the gate" on this subject but there has to be more to this than your dog barking at old and young people. Why didn't you ensure she couldn't?

You have to know that I actually find this really hard to write as I am the last person in the world to want to see a dog put down but what have you not explained? Perhaps too late now and cross fingers you have found a really good dog owner to take her on through Trade Me. Seriously!

I have not had the time with a newborn baby to always be outside when she is to ensure she never barks. I have had no help by th dcc to get her fixes an have been on the waiting list for a very long time. She will be taken off me due to barking complaints and nothing more. She has just had a two week trail with a shock collar that animal control provided and then 11 days ago they took it away gave me a website where I could buy my own I don't know about you but me being a single mother I can't afford to buy one straight away in the time it's been off her she's had 3 more complaints from same person and now I have been issued with a court order to remove her as the animal control say they have done what they can do to fix problem it's up to me which is all fair enough il admit it's prob my fault but that don't mean I am a bad person Coz my dog barks at the mail lady

Ash - I am not angry with you - well slightly - nor do I think you are a bad person - but how the hell does a single parent end up with a Hunterway X dog? I kind of understand where you are coming from in that you took on the puppy and she has grown into a dog that you have not done the training on and she is causing a problem and thus the outcome.

From reading your post, you have had AC try and help you but it has not worked and you have to understand that regardless of how much you love your dog, you can't let this carry on. Good on you for trying to re home her and maybe AC will be able to as well - they are not the enemy and mostly dog lovers - but if she has not had any training and has reached an age where she is going to be a problem, then maybe they will decide that it has gone to far to stop her behaviour that is causing the problem.

There isn't a person on this site who would question how much you love your dog but she was a bad choice for your circumstances and something that is beyond your control. Let her go whether through TM or AC and learn big time how important it is to do your homework and make the right choice of breed and X.

I am still crossing my fingers that you will find an experienced dog person to give her a chance.

I'm sorry but i got her 3 years ago when I was with my x partner we wanted a dog we lived in a quiet area where she never had things to bark at nor was she a problem. I was not a single mother when I got her. I have then moved and things happen and now I am trying to rehome my dog and you do not need to cross your fingers for me as she has found a home now and it's actually with a 30 year old single mother.
