It has taken far too long - over 18 months since the accident, but Tuesday I finally get the foot operated on. Driving back down to chch on Monday.
Heel re-alignment, multiple tendon and ligament repairs and a couple of dislocated toes wired back together.
Its going to hurt, but better than the option of not getting it done.

Yes, fortunately they pay for OH to come with me, though as it is the left foot and the car is automatic I should be able to drive it short distances very soon

Back home, surprisingly the foot hardly hurts at all (except when I accidentally put weight on it).
I have already had a comedy moment, crawling round the house trying to chase a chicken out.
