Hi everyone, I get lunch bar scraps for my chooks but I've just been offered twice weekly scraps from a cafe in Albany (north of Auckland) and there is way too much for me. The cafe owner needs someone with pigs to collect the scraps twice a week, last week there were 3 black rubbish sacks full. It would be a shame for him to have to send it to the dump each week as it's good food.

Good luck Em, getting pig scraps is like finding hen's teeth [;)]

You also have to be very careful that pig scraps do not have scrap meat in them, unless you are prepared to boil for the recommended time. Just part of the regulations to protect our country from possible F&M and other risks.

Did you know, that what you thought I said, was not what I meant :S

I thought one had to have a license to be able to collect scraps from a public kitchen. The license relates to I think adequate cooking facilities on the farm/block to process these scraps. Maybe it only applies to some councils.
