Hey I wasn't trying to promote my forum over this one.quote:Originally posted by wino
It's rather bad form to join one forum to advise people about another one wouldn't you say.
For that reason I will sort my preparedness out for myself
I plan to contribute quite a bit to this one.
I was just looking for like minded people is all.
Sorry if I offended you.

and what I learnt from that will suffice me,
life it too depressing to spend all ones time.. worrying about the possibilities.. sorry its too much like the 60's and the bomb shelters in the back yard theme..
my place looks like the bomb has hit it, so I wont be invaded by the city low life, no takers from this area[xx(]

I am sure MM will have a 100 years supply of wine safe and sound. I would hope so.
Anyways, how did you find us?? Or are you a reincarnation?

My state of preparedness is about as good as Beedee's and for similar reasons. Life is too short and too fraught without having to worry about something that may never happen. If I can find the torch I'm doing well, if the battery still has life in it, I've hit the Jackpot:D
Having said that though, I think that by the very nature of their ruralness and occupation, many farms are unwittingly set up to deal with short termish problems. Most have a 4x4 of some sort whether it be a ute, ATV or something like a Mule. Many have a gen set, just about all have freezers that can be maintained by said gen set, most have a small supply of petrol or diesel on hand even if the intention of it is to run chainsaws and the lawnmower under normal circumstances. Because many only shop once a week, and sometimes less, there is usually a good stock of tinned and dried foods, sugar, flour etc. If there is no power water can be got out of the tank if needs be. There are only two of us in this household but if push came to shove, I reckon we could last two months if the sh!t hit the fan, probably longer.
Cheers,
Ronnie

Do people really shop once a week or more.[:0] That truly amazes me. As does the hugh cues in the supermarkets right before a holiday when the store will be closed for 1 day.
Even as a townie we only shopped fortnightly, and are now extending that out as quite frankly I have better things to do with my time than go to the supermarket.
