Birdsnests in the flue!

Got cold and windy enough tonight that I thought "ah bugger it, I'll fire up the woodstove tonight."

Hadn't cleaned the flue out over summer so dropped the bottom off the flue, whipped up on the roof just on sunset with the chimney brush and carefully ending up pushing about a metre worth of compact nesting material out of the bottom of the steel flue!

Little buggers had been busy!

Reminder not to take it for granted that that chimney is empty before firing up your stove/fireplace as it gets colder!

My last flue-based birds nest was right down the very bottom.. must have slid down... I opened up the front of the flu and there was a bird staring at me amongst the nest.. my cat never moved so quick.. was up on the stove, grabbed the bird and was out the door before I had a moment.. stunning turn of speed!!!!
