Grooming horses - what we used to call strapping in the UK. Hard grooming session with rubber curry then body brush and curry comb. No idea why, but that always relaxes me.
Mucking out stables.
Going for a swim in the creek at the end of the day. Very private, no one can see me.
Watching the dogs play.
Reading in bed.

Don't do the wine thing, so need to use other methods.

Going out to shoot bunnies....and coming back several hours later with no dead bunnies, but really relaxed from sitting listening to the birds put themselves to bed.

Coming back with dead bunnies.

Going for a evening walk to spot the resident quail pair and their chicks, and talking to my girls (sheep)....and spotting live bunnies who somehow 'know' when you don't have a gun and proceed to taunt you.

Giving the odd bum-rub to several ewes that walk over to demand it.

Watching lambs play (but that has to wait till spring).

Sitting in the hay shed of an evening, smelling the hay, listening to the wildlife.

Getting nightly feetrubs from my husband, ah bless him!

The best thing about this thread (apart from the wine) is that pretty much all of the important things we need and love are free.

Reading really bad novels, such as ott romance novels, as some of them are So Bad and SO OTT. For some reason this relaxes and soothes me[:I]

Reading anything by Georgette Heyer - her books are brilliant. I've read them all multiple times and are like old friends.

Doing Sudoku - this is sort of like a meditation for me when I'm getting too stressed.

Watching the cows graze.

Visiting with the goats.

Giving the chooks food like a piece of spaghetti that they chase each other around to grab - like watching 5 yr olds play rugby. :D

Pursuing flies with a rolled up newspaper [}:)]

Need to change the title :D . How to de-stress stress after de-stressing critters cause stress maybe? Agree, mostly it is wine and our animals BUT, I have just had to retrieve my piglets from a neighbour's place and I am not de-stressed, but somewhat stressed. I guess I need some wine and to go and talk to some animals who do want to live at our place, rather than somewhere else. Pigs, who would have them?

1 Border collie, 1 Huntaway, 2 Lhasa Apsos, Suffolk and arapawa ewe crosses, an Arapawa ram,an East Friesian ewe , 5 cats, 42 ducks , 1 rooster and 30 hens, 5 geese, 12 goats, 2 donkeys, 2 house cows, one heifer calf, one bull calf, 3 rabbits and lots and lots and lots of fruit trees...

I just came in from the evening chores (which I did quite a bit earlier than usual because I knew a storm front was closing in, and I didn't want to get caught in the pouring rain)... it's a quiet, warm evening, raining gently, and all I could hear was the rain on the tin roofs, goats munching hay and the sound of my favourite squeaky gate (you know that 'perfect' squeak? Homely and comforting sort of sound, to me...)... just lovely. I'm tired, but very much de-stressed!

I really thought I was the only person in NZ with the complete Geogette Heyer collection [:I][:I] I can't read any other romances but she's great :D
