And back to what we had before we changed to what we have now. I think it's a good thing. It will cause confusion for a while just like the previous change did but people will soon get used to it.

If people aren't capable of understanding the current laws, I can't see what difference this will make. I shudder to think how many prangs there will be during this changeover...

Also don't fancy being the one stuck in the middle of the road turning right while having to give way to absolutely everyone else when I am in the most dangerous place to be sitting comparatively! :(

When do the new laws come into effect?

I've had a license since 1982 & only driven under the current rules

Our 15yo is on L plates so I'm gonna have to get my head around new rule quick smart to keep him on the right track

It'll be great for our give way laws to move back to international norms. Just have to be super wary at intersections until the slow learners get used to the new rules, but that will be on top of the red light runners, cellphone users and those who treat motorcycles as invisible so not a lot will change for me

Why would anyone who can't understand the present Rule understand the 'new' one? And, as we all know, there are plenty out there who don't.

I don't care that we are (currently) different to the 'rest of the world'.
At least what we presently have is LOGICAL and CONSISTENT.
Like, it's as simple as 'you only give way to your right'.

But, in the future -
* you give way to the person on your right (if no-one is changing direction),
*you don't give way to your right if that other person is changing direction and you're going straight ahead,
*But, if you're both turning, you give way to the person on your left!

If I am making any error here, I'd be pleased to be informed. If not -
all I can say, is make sure you're well-insured!

What are you riding Organix?

Got a real tidy 1979 Triumph Bonneville 750 I ride, I might be invisible but they'll always hear me coming :D

i do that alot, especially if the car behind me looks like it wants to go straight ahead. i am gone and out of everyones way very quickly. getting out of the way is always good. i get sick of some idiot wanting to turn left, holding me up when i want to carry on straight ahead. it is worse if said idiot straddles 2 lanes and you cant go around him even if there are 2 lanes.
bring the reversion to common sense on.

I'll put my hand up to say I'm bound to be one of the slow learners - the first problem being that I wonder if I might be sitting a long time at a roundabout since it seems more likely that traffic that could cause a problem is coming from my right. Thank goodness I don't live in a city.

The roundabout rule is not changing. As now give way to traffic that is already on the roundabout. Where is the difficulty?

Totally a supporter of the current rule. As Will points out, it is logical and consistent and I never see any problems with it being applied whether in rural areas or urban area. Whose dumb idea was it to change it back?
