Feeling constantly tired!

Hi all,
I'm debating at the moment whether to go and see a doctor or not: for weeks now I'm just feeling so tired! Come night time I just crash into bed at the same time as the kids, and then feel I'm so tired I can't go to sleep. Most nights I do reasonably quick though and sleep through til about 6.
I'm doing the usual stuff in the house and garden, trying to do maybe a bit more than last year, and having put on a few kilos since then too.
My eye lids are pink as [;)] and my diet is reasonable balanced as well. :p

My hubby reckons it's quite normal, but I don't feel normal.
How's everyone else going this time of year?

1 hubby, 2 kids, 1 cat, 1 dog, 2 swallows and I've lost count how many offsprings with even more grandkids, 5 bunny girls, 5 bunny boys, 12 chickens (rooster, pullets, chicks and more about to hatch hopefully) and 4 goats with two of them expecting any day! (24.10.14)
But who's counting [;)]...

How old are you? What's your iron level history?

You could be dying, but it's more likely any of a multitude of other reasons.

:D :D :D
cheers Ruth,
I'm 47 and my iron history has been pretty average.I only had to eat more red meat during my pregnancies.
And I'm hopefully not dying yet for a long time. [;)]

Interesting video!
I suppose that's why I haven't run to the doc yet.
Could just be all normal, me working more outside, fresh air, more physical work = body tired.
I suppose after decades of not utilizing my body to make food ( grow veges, raise animals) it will take a while for it to get accustomed to the different pressures put onto it?

I'm 46 (well TBH, 47 next month), and my iron history has been all over the place. I do consume lots of iron-rich foods, but since late last year I've been getting more and more tired all the time, having to have long naps in the afternoons, and just dragging along. I have also had 7 colds in 9 months. After the 5th cold, went to my GP, and she ordered all kinds of blood tests. Came back totally normal, except for iron, which was very, VERY low. So I'm on iron pills, which apparently take 3 months to really kick in. I've got a month left on them before I go back for a recheck. I have up days and down days, but the insomnia has improved, marginally, and I don't have to nap EVERY afternoon. So, worth it to get your iron checked, and probably your thyroid as well.

47: I hope you're not frightened of menopause, or perimenopause, that sometimes long lead-up to everything changing. I was 47 for a couple of hours on Monday and there have been interesting indicators of things altering for the last few months.

(I was 47 and then I realised I couldn't be, if I was 36 when I woke up to all those awful pictures of people hurling themselves out of very high buildings in New York!)

@Ruth Sort of, my mum had one hell of a time, but she was in heaps worse physical condition when it hit her than I am now. I'm trying to remember everything she did, and it didn't work and avoid those mistakes. Not sure when she got it, but maybe I should go and at least get a blood test done. That won't hurt, well not majorly [;)] and I suppose then I can make an informed decision.

Well, I hope you had a nice day anyway! Congrats! The thing is, now I feel younger than I did 10 years ago! Except for the creaking in the joints of course.[;)]

Just another thought - being tired all the time yet having difficulty sleeping properly is also one of the symptoms of depression![B)]

Yes, I know! But my mental state is better than it has been in ages. Having a chat on Tuesday with my doc and then we'll see what we'll do.

How many people get a birthday surprise of being a year younger than they thought they were going to be? Fooling oneself can be fun! :D
