Feilding people - how much rain have you had

I am supposed to go to a dog show this weekend but I'm sick of mud, mud, and mud. We have had just over 100mls in the last 6 days and our place is wetter than it has ever been before. A nice quiet weekend at home is sounding much nicer than a 4.30am start and more mud.

Surely they would be running it indoors and/or on the all weather surfaces they have for equestrian competitions. I went to the garden show in May & never stepped onto a piece of grass.

Check with the organisers. I'm sure you will find you're not on grass. If you are it will be a bog! I used to go to the December A & P show & after jumping horses in hock deep mud about five years ago I have never been back!

Thanks Stu, its at Timona Park not Manfield but the ground conditions will be similar - usually Manfield is a bit wetter than the park. It will give me a good idea.
Definitely outside - any weather, Its agility. I went to a show outdoors at Manfield in October 2008 and swore never to go back there - it was a foot deep in mud.

Heard on the radio that the gorge was closed this morning so the 'against column' is getting bigger.

Yes the gorge may be closed for a week due to large landslide although Saddle Road and Pahiatua Track open as an alternative route. I suggest you contact someone re Timona Park, as it's outside it could well be boggy. Maybe Feilding Council can help?
Good on Stu for having a look for you - he's a good egg.

Thanks for the info on the gorge shad297, its all over the grapevine now ;) Im happy to wait for Stu's report it will give me a good idea, and given the news on the gorge and the fact that I would be driving over the track in the dark (twice !) I've pretty much decided to stay home and enjoy the mud I know.

Hi ya Bunter
well went to Manfield and had a look and a walk over the ground ( probably where you had mud last tiem lol ) there were a few small puddles, but the base ground was good , diudnt squlech under my feet at all ... dont think it would mud up to bad all
LOL got asked by the people at manfield what i was doing .. told them .. and they said no dog show there
lol so went to Tamona on way home tonight as figgured would be there if not manfield :)
They have the rings set up there already ... and its good underfoot .. no squlech, no slip, no slide, no mud, no water laying arround
Unless really heavy rain tonight ... i would say it will be just fine underfoot up there tomorrow :)

Thanks so much for that Stu, really appreciate your time and effort in checking the grounds out. Hmmmm, dilemma time. Have to have a big think and see what travelling companions think.

Didnt go in the end Stu, one of my travelling companions was sick and we decided not to take on the track in the dark. As it turned out I had texts from friends over there who reported it was a lovely day and the grounds were good - I had passed on the info to them the night before :) so they knew what to expect ;)
Great day in the Wairarapa too, got heaps of tidying up done in the garden and stock moved to clean paddocks. Dogs had a fun day and are both asleep in front of the fire. Think they would have stayed cleaner though if I'd gone to Feilding.
