Cream/Milk Separator - no machine

I can't find the thread where we talked about separting cream from milk without having to buy an expensive machine. I have finally found the separator bowl i brought with me from Switzerland. Attached are the pics:
The bowl, with the separator bit loose on the bottom; the spout; the separator bit hooked loosely over the spout; the separator bit pushed into place, demonstrating how far down the bottom the milk drains away when the bowl is tilted; and the spout, narrowed down by the separator bit.
This separator bowl has been used for centuries - obviously not always in aluminium [;)], and i'm wondering if a potter could not find a way to replicate the system?

I think a good metal worker could easily make a flap like that, that would fit on any sort of bowl, with pouring spout, you have.

Did you know, that what you thought I said, was not what I meant :S
