Another virus threat

This one's fairly crafty as it looks like a returned email, you know all those Mailer-Daemon ones. It's via Transpeer and my one at least looks like a warning from Kiwibank. Now easy to be suspicious when one doesn't have a kiwibank account.

A check of it's source appears to have originated from Thailand. Needless to say I did not open the attachment but deleted the whole thing. Interesting that it should have both Mal and Phish in the subject matter

Did you know, that what you thought I said, was not what I meant :S

thanks for posting that,
even though we're with kiwibank I am VERY suspicious of emails with attachments since the last one, pretending to come from a close friend and supposedly containing photos crashed the computer. Fortunately within a second of it not doing what it was supposed to, open and scan the files, I forced it shut. So no damage done, but since then, nothing really gets opened unless I'm expecting it.

1 hubby, 2 kids, 1 cat, 1 dog, 2 swallows and I've lost count how many offsprings with even more grandkids, 5 bunny girls, 5 bunny boys, 12 chickens (rooster, pullets, chicks and more about to hatch hopefully) and 4 goats with two of them expecting any day! (24.10.14)
But who's counting [;)]...

It's been around quite a while. It's called backscatter spam. Instead of sending the spam directly to your email address and risk having it blocked by your ISP they send it to a non-existent email address e.g #@xtra.co.nz with your email address as the 'envelope sender' so the ISP bounces the message before it hits the spam filters and the resultant Non Deliverable Reply (NDR) is delivered to your email address as the 'sender' of the original email. If the spammers do it within the same ISP then the email bypasses the spam filters.

Thanks for that Kiwi Jon. I sometimes wish I had the knowledge to gather all of these messages together, and when I had a huge number, choose a spammer at random and multisend the whole lot to that spammer. Without any trace back to me of course. It might not do any good, but it would make me feel very satisfied! :)

Have you considered that that would just make you another malicious spammer [B)]
