Memo 1:
CHRISTMAS PARTY ANNOUNCEMENT
Subject: Fw: Xmas Party
FROM: Patty Lewis, Human Resources Director
TO: All Employees
DATE: October 01, 2004
RE: Christmas Party
I'm happy to inform you that the company Christmas Party will take place on December 23, starting at noon in the private function room at the Grill House.
There will be a cash bar and plenty of drinks! We'll have a small band playing traditional carols...feel free to sing along.
And don't be surprised if our CEO shows up dressed as Santa Claus!
A Christmas tree will be lit at 1:00pm. Exchange of gifts among employees can be done at that time; however, no gift should be over $10.00 to make the giving of gifts easy for everyone's pockets. This gathering is only for employees!
Our CEO will make a special announcement at that time!
Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Patty

Memo 2:
FROM: Patty Lewis, Human Resources Director
TO: All Employees
DATE: October 02, 2004
RE: Holiday Party
In no way was yesterday's memo intended to exclude our Jewish employees. We recognize that Chanukah is an important holiday, which often coincides with Christmas, though unfortunately not this year. However, from now on we're calling it our "Holiday Party."
The same policy applies to any other employees who are not Christians or those still celebrating Reconciliation Day.
There will be no Christmas tree present. No Christmas carols sung.
We will have other types of music for your enjoyment. Happy now?
Happy Holidays to you and your family.
Patty

Memo 3:
FROM: Patty Lewis, Human Resources Director
TO: All Employees
DATE: October 03, 2004
RE: Holiday Party
Regarding the note I received from a member of Alcoholics Anonymous requesting a non-drinking table ... you didn't sign your name. I'm happy to accommodate this request, but if I put a sign on a table that reads, "AA Only"; you wouldn't be anonymous anymore.
How am I supposed to handle this? Somebody?
Forget about the gifts exchange, no gifts exchange are allowed since the union members feel that $10.00 is too much money and executives believe $10.00 is a little chintzy. NO GIFTS EXCHANGE WILL BE ALLOWED.

Memo 4:
FROM: Patty Lewis, Human Resources Director
To: All Employees
RE: Holiday Party
What a diverse group we are! I had no idea that December 20 begins the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which forbids eating and drinking during daylight hours.
There goes the party! Seriously, we can appreciate how a luncheon at this time of year does not accommodate our Muslim employees' beliefs. Perhaps the Grill House can hold off on serving your meal until the end of the party- or else package everything for you to take it home in little foil doggy baggy. Will that work?
Meanwhile, I've arranged for members of Weight Watchers to sit farthest from The dessert buffet and pregnant women will get the table closest to the restrooms.
Gays are allowed to sit with each other. Lesbians do not have to sit with Gay men, each will have their own table. Yes, there will be flower arrangement for the Gay men's table.
To the person asking permission to cross dress, no cross-dressing allowed though.
We will have booster seats for short people.
Low-fat food will be available for those on a diet.
We cannot control the salt used in the food we suggest for those people with high blood pressure to taste first.
There will be fresh fruits as dessert for Diabetics, the restaurant cannot supply "No Sugar" desserts. Sorry!
Did I miss anything?!?!?

Memo 5:
FROM: Patty Lewis, Human Resources Director
TO: All F****** Employees
DATE: October 05, 2004
RE: The F****** Holiday Party
Vegetarian pricks I've had it with you people!!! We're going to keep this party at the Grill House whether you like it or not, so you can sit quietly at the table furthest from the "grill of death," as you so quaintly put it, and you'll get your f****** salad bar, including organic tomatoes. But you know, tomatoes have feelings, too. They scream when you slice them. I've heard them scream. I'm hearing them scream right NOW! I hope you all have a rotten holiday!

Memo 6:
FROM: Joan Bishop, Acting Human Resources Director
DATE: October 06, 2004
RE: Patty Lewis and Holiday Party
I'm sure I speak for all of us in wishing Patty Lewis a speedy recovery and I'll continue to forward your cards to her. In the meantime, management has decided to cancel our Holiday Party and give everyone the afternoon of the 23rd off with full pay.
Happy Holidays!
Joan

No - I'm talking about deleting the Australia thread.
This joke does have a subtle implication that all 'non-mainstream' people are a problem but as you can see I haven't deleted it or complained about it [}

I dunno whether my posts on the deleted thread were the cause for the eventual removal of the thread. It seemed to live its life for quite some time before being "pulled" and I know I was one of the last to post.
If so, then I apologise to forum members and would like to say that the comments I raised were not aimed at anyone on this site, rather based on knowledge of what activities some parts of my own family undertake to avoid working... and gain financial benefit.
It is factual and it happens however "offensive" others may find it.
However somehow a clearer line in the sand must be drawn re postings in the OT section to give better direction.
I personally don't find MM's post upsetting at all, and nor the comments raised in "Australia - your right to leave", but obviously
its going to offend or even annoy someone.
So, do we let the"jokes" stay and not allow further comment which they are going to attract or should we just say no let's not even go down that track and not allow the "jokes" because they do have innunendo behind them which could offend and cause further discussion issues.
Where is the line of when to post and not to post? I ask this with good intentions and not to cause a heated stir or attack on Kate's right to pull any thread.

No need to tread too carefully [}

My aim is to keep this forum a friendly and welcoming place to be for all visitors.
There are a number of issues on which people feel strongly, one way or another, and these issues tend to result in threads which get acrimonious and/or abusive or which just put other people off visiting this website. These issues are often but not always political and include immigration, beneficiaries, peoples sexual preference etc. There are many other places on the Internet, via email, or on talkback radio where these views can be expressed without potentially harming this website

I'm not the political correctness police, if people want to post jokes (as long as they're not too offensive) then that is great. We can all do with a laugh.
There are so many topics on which we can have constructive debates, so many ways in which we can offer help and suport to each other. That is what this website was set up to do...
I hope I haven't offended too many people with that...[

Cheers

Well I have to say that was how I saw it too...quote:Originally posted by Toni - Northland
Did I miss something?? I didn't think that Australia one was in any way offensive. Just a variety of opinions??[:0]
However obviously it crossed the line, but I am not sure where and thus my asking as to how we determine where that line is and should it have been nipped in the bud with the first posting however "amusing" it was to some of us.?
I fully appreciate wanting to keep the site light, non offensive and informative for the smaller agricultural land occupier, but perhaps we still need to narrow what is allowed in the OT section, because what is funny to me or you (in the collective sense) may certainly not be to others (also in the collective sense) and thus offense is made...
I dunno, its all too hard sometimes....

One other thing I have noticed is that OT has a small regular clientelle of posters and I was of the opinion that it was just a great spot for people to air their views. Each of us are affected by different things i.e. age, young family, elderly parents and our own history of being raised in this country - or not. I referred to the rise in mortgages, hospital waiting list times etc. Any economist will tell you that immigration has a direct bearing on that but are we not allowed to say that now because it makes us "anti immigrant"? Or is it because of the ER Act?

No, the ER act only refers to people actually persuading other people to vote for a particular party so this kind of talk doesn't apply.
