Car Canopies and 4wd ''options''

We did the fieldday thing yesterday and narrowed our car search down to two manufacturers, just getting the dealers to sharpen their pencils.

I notice in the initial quotes between 3 dealers there is a variance of up to $1800 for a canopy for the vehicle I want. I am not having the batwing windows, rather sliding ones (which are cheaper and better for the dogs when we are driving along) so I am assuming there must be a quality difference in the canopies being quoted. I am going to ask for manufacturer names though...

I thought I would ask the forum if anyone was happy to recommend a particular canopy manufacturer (or who to steer away from) and also did you buy yours as part of a package deal with the car dealer, or after market. I am definitely going to price the options as an after market thing too.

We brought a new Toyota Hilux 5 years ago, got the canopy with it as part of the package. It has sliding windows and is the higher canopy which is good as it even fits a goat in it if we need to take 1 of them anywhere.

Many thanks for the link and info. the first canopy price I got was with a nissan quote and that was $2000. I checked with our postie who bought one about 3 years ago and he thought that was about right, and then we went to fielddays and the canopy quote on the nissan down there started firstly at $3500 and then when we told him we had another nissan quote in the final figures he brought it down to $3000..... but still no ''name'' mentioned as to whose canopy.
I then checked out the toyota display and the canopy there looked ok to me but I am no expert by any means. They are getting back to me with a quote as are mitsubishi. I have emailed one of the after market suppliers I saw on the way through Te Rapa (I think it was) as I quite liked the look of the canopy on their website for mitsubishi, the info there suggests their canopy manufacturer has been in business in NZ for 30 years, starts with C.

so any user feedback I can glean is really appreciated!

I checked out their website earlier and they look quite good. I have emailed fully equipped earlier on to obtain a full quotation from them for the options I want on the vehicle..

However I received the first of the fielddays quotes today (keen) the dealer is offering a Beaut Ute canopy with sliding windows (price $2900)and offering warranty coverage on it. Anyone got one of those?
