We had lots of those when we put lawn seed down. I think they might be wax eyes? Ate most of our seed, :( ...but they are pretty :D

Some people are so poor, all they have is money.

Yes they are gold finches, or more specifically the European Goldfinch

Did you know, that what you thought I said, was not what I meant :S

The greenfinch is a bit bigger than the goldfinch. It looks a lot more like a sparrow and doesn't have the red topknot or the white flecks in the flight feathers.

Compare. Kaumea's first picture clearly shows the flecks on the flight feathers.

Well I didn't see any red on the heads in the original picture but seemed a bit too much colour of the green finch so I wasn't going to commit myself one way or tother.

These are very definately Goldfinches and will be juvenile birds which is why they are not showing the distinctive red face mask.

Cheers,
Ronnie

Definitely gold finches. We have a small flock that visits our garden every day. I blame them for the state of the garden - I let everything go to seed just so I can see them hanging upside down from the seed heads like little trapeze artists! :D

They are currently eating our marigold seeds.

I had a friend from Algeria who used to keep goldfinches as pets back home and loved them. After hearing him talk about them, a mutual friend decided to get him a pet - and got him a goldfish! :D Just shows how easily mis-communication happens!
