Yes, it's been a very bad couple of weeks, and they are really really really annoying now. We have never had so many flies about the house at this time of year before!

Not a lot of flies outdoors, just indoors here. And they are behaving differently, or maybe they are a different kind, as they keep dive-bombing me and getting behind my glasses!

I have them in my house - ceiling and flying slowly in circles at about knee height. They are also all over my baleage bales. I am not sure if these are cluster flies or not. They aren't packed in the way that I have seen pictures of, but there at LOTS of them. I guess they are gathering there for the warmth. I hope that we get a good frost soon and that will kill all the outside ones.

I think those ones are called vinegar flies. Did you leave your glass of wine standing just a bit long :D

Last night as I was finishing up in my feed shed (an old milk tank stand, sans milk tank) I noticed a buzzing. Looked up and saw heaps of clusters, Ewwww, yuk. So took the vacuum down and vacuumed up as many as I could. That set some of them off flying - all around the light. They were so thick that I just stuck the end of the vacuum cleaner hose in the air by the light and they were getting sucked in. So then I sprayed as per the pest man's instructions. This morning the floor was covered in dead flies. If their pheromes attrack other flies even when they are dead, what do I do about all the dead ones littering the floor - behind shelves, in amongst all the junk I have stored in my feed room?

I don't know if I dare go up into my roof space. House is well away from the shed, but even so. Maybe I'll just set off some bombs.

The last 3 weeks we've had cluster flies...lots..YUK(we're in south Canterbury)
My old Romney ewe who has never been flyblown had a bad attack 2 weeks ago..very late here for that sort of thing[:0] I've used outdoor spray inside with good results...have to vacuum several times a day though. Down to just a couple of dozen flies now a day as the weather gets cooler:o

back on lifestyle block..so excited!..
Still have a full on Jack Russell,a Bischon X, Lilly cat,our new cat Fudge ,max the horse cat, plus 14 Barnevelders....
