Kent Fire - Identifying a 1990ish Model

I'm about to put a logburner in this house. I own a 1990ish small cream coloured Kent which has only been used two winters - you may well laugh!

Anyway, local installer has told me that if I have the specifications I should be able to get an engineer's report & hopefully a permit to have it installed. Have to get a new flue - not allowed 2nd hand. This is Manawatu District Council.

Of course, I haven't got the spec's. I bought it in Hamilton just about the time BBQ Factory bought out Kent around about 1990. They had a huge sale.

Can anybody point me in the right direction here? I did Goggle it & rang the Kent people (aber.co.nz) but they have just bought the business & the young girl said nobody would know about any models that weren't on the website where you can ID older models.

I can go & take a photo of it & send to them but doesn't sound as if it would be much help.

I was hoping to find somebody whose been in the business for a long time & might be able to help.

It would be good if I could use my own fire as it would save me a substantial amount of $. As I am only renting here I would want to take it with me when I leave. Also, it's quite gorgeous & the creamy colour matches the decor.

Thanks.

Toast can you put up a photo of it? My previous neighbour had one that sounds similar but I would imagine older than the 1990's. Does it not have a plate with all the details on the back of it?

Thanks, DiDi. No nothing like it. I'm going to where it is stored to take pic either this afternoon or tomorrow afternoon, then will post pic. Will look on back for plate, serial no. etc.

The local installer have found the manual for this logburner & have all the information needed for the permit. Yay! I don't have to pay for a new one - just new flue, hearth, permit, installation etc. Such a relief as it is such a waste to have a perfectly good, hardly used logburner sitting in a garage.

Here are the pic's of it - looks great when it is cleaned up.

Good news - hopefully it will not be one of the daft new ones that are designed not to burn all night!

Last night, I went outside and noticed smoke coming from a neighbouring property (being urban they are all so close!) and initially freaked thinking their house was on fire but a big breath and realising that the smoke was grey, an obvious burnoff of paper etc not nasties. Relaxed and went back indoors.

I was then at a party on Sunday and mentioned it to the resident fireman by asking if we are allowed to use a rural permitted outside fire thingie (they have a chimney) in the urban area and his answer was no but that everyone burns off at night hoping no one sees it. No one complains and nothing catches fire - it is not known by the fire service. Interesting when we have ineffective fireplaces for urban areas being demanded. I would have thought it was more important as to what you were burning i.e. green or dry firewood than how long the fire simmers for.

It's not a new one. It's 1990 or earlier & has the old air control lever so can be shut down overnight - not allowed in town or on block less than 2ha.

They keep asking if it's over 2ha - hasn't sunk in yet what 6000 acres means!
