Sorry suzanne, it's illegal to sell, propagate or distribute Mexican daisy (Erigeron karvinskianus) [:0]. There is another Erigeron on the market which doesn't set seed, called 'Los Angeles' or similar...:D

Yes I have, and if anyone else wants one, I have 'Plant Me Instead' booklets (free) for the Southland, Waikato, Nelson/Marlborough/West Coast and Canterbury/Otago areas, just email me on my profile :D.

They show weedy species (some banned from sale like Mexican daisy, some not banned from sale for whatever reason but still of major concern in those areas according to those actually working and volunteering their time in natural ecosystems) and suggest non-weedy alternatives, both native and non-native - all in brilliant colour :).

Thats good then, she was having an argument with her neighbour and his ivy invading her garden! So I gave it to her to wave under his nose!

:D I can't be everywhere at once, though I do try [}:)]

Hint: if anyone tries to give you something and describes it as 'a really fast grower' or 'impossible to kill', run a mile! Bit like culled sheep, you are inheriting someone else's problem that they don't want any more!! ;)

aaah Tigger.. I like that description of what plants to avoid.. really fast grower / impossible to kill... excellent :D;) If it's a 'real' plant it take 10 years to get established here but anything 'naughty' .. well.. that's rampant within 6 months.. eeek..

our place in Wellington had a Mexican daisy planted there when I bought it - it is not the good one, but is the "bad" one and has never done well or escaped. There is still only the one small plant. If it were on anything other than a vertical (almost) face I would have done something but not worth risking my arm or leg. Pretty though. Can't wait to move to the flat of the Wairarapa and no more mountain goat gardening!

1 Border collie, 1 Huntaway, 2 Lhasa Apsos, Suffolk and arapawa ewe crosses, an Arapawa ram,an East Friesian ewe , 5 cats, 42 ducks , 1 rooster and 30 hens, 5 geese, 12 goats, 2 donkeys, 2 house cows, one heifer calf, one bull calf, 3 rabbits and lots and lots and lots of fruit trees...
