Well this has me scratching my head! :confused: Found it by accident in the satellite view on Google. It's an area just to the east of Lake Mangakino in the Waikato. Is it selective logging that makes this 'waffle' pattern appear?

Do the police in other parts of the country do aerial spotting at this time of year? We have a little slow-flying fixed wing plane flying over the bushy hills, which is then followed by a helicopter with a spray contraption hanging far beneath it. I presume it contains the green-dyed herbicide for rendering illegal crops useless.
I downloaded one and inverted the colours... showing in the negative view is the grid...
In the absence of evidence to the contrary, I am willing to entertain the assumption that the displayed anomaly may depict the establishment of a research nursery tree varietal trial plot.
How far is it from the old forestry research nursery where AgResearch/HortResearch, formerly MAF, formerly the Dept of Forests do all their tree clone research?

Yes the little slow flying plane a couple of days ago & the chopper all happening overhead here today.
