Can anyone tell me if chch is ok? I can't get thru to anyone but in Springfield it's the biggest I've felt so far!

Just seen it flashed across telly screen ...6.3 so a blooming biggun ...Feel for everyone...hope all of you are doing OK and no more damage ...when will it end!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CBD is down and flooded

Nat programme had mayor and others on..6.3 ..10K south might have been a 6.6 felt 800k away and 1 k down. Littleton shook bad and Chch hospital evacuated

Felt it strongly in Balclutha.

Fork is right, and I have had a few other choices words to say.... Chch sounds like a bigger mess than before, and this time with thousands of people in the middle of it. DD is in the worst of the damage, but OK, but she (she's only 14) was so traumatised by the first big one, she hasn't slept in her bedroom since.

Have talked with DS, who was at Canterbury uni, they've evacuated and he's headed to where DH works, which is well away from the CBD (near airport). They have to figure out how to get to DS who has been evacuated by her school (in the CBD near Cathedral square) to a park well away from the CBD. Injuries, like people on the ground, buildings collapsed, water mains burst and water pouring out all over the place.

I am just trying to stay calm.

Have had heaps of small aftershocks since the 6.3 that I'm feeling way out here in Oxford, can't even imagine what it's like for those in town.

Civil defence leapt into action in cbd

Pictures coming thru on the telly not looking good. Major damage and folk wandering aimlessly around, not knowing what to do. Major road damage and buildings down.

Sounds dreadful.

Hope there are no fatalities, but not sounding good at this early stage.

Cripes. There are confirmed deaths now. My heart really goes out to everyone in town... and I want my family home!!!!!!!!!

spoke to my daughter, shes on the Canterbury at Littleton she said the boat shook, houses crumbling on hillsides and big slips. very scary
